Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to pianists and violinists of all nationalities and ages 7 to 18 as of May 11th, 2024.

Application Rules:

  • All applications must be completed and submitted via our website: www.ManolovCompetitionNY.com before the EXTENDED DEADLINE – 11.59pm EST on April 12th, 2024.

  • All applicants must upload a photo, proof of age and pay the fallowing non-refundable application fee through the website’s online payment tool: Groups A - $50; Group B - $75; Group C - $100.

  • An email of confirmation will be received upon completing the online application form and submitting the application fee.

  • If an applicant has completed an application and paid the application fee in full but has not received and email of confirmation within 48 hour he or she should fallow up and contact the competition committee at ManolovCompetitionNY@gmail.com

  • First Prize Winners of Previous Editions of the Competition are not allowed to compete again in the same age group.

  • The competition committee will accept no responsibility for applications that were not received.

Competition Rules:

  • The competition will be held in Two Categories: Piano and Violin in three Age Groups: A (7-10 years old), B (11-14 years old) and C (15-18 years old.

  • Age Group A will compete in a single  Video Recording Round. Age Groups B and C will compete in two separate elimination rounds: Preliminary (Video Recording) and Final (LIVE in person).

  • The Video Recording must not be edited under any circumstances.

  • Selected participants from Category Violin (B and C groups) will compete in the LIVE Final Round on May 11th, 2024 at 2.00pm in Garden City, New York (see directions)

  • Selected participants from Category Piano (B  and C groups) will compete in the LIVE Final Round on May 11th, 2024 at 1.30pm in Garden City, New York (see directions).

  • The performance order for the LIVE Final round will be determined by drawing. The competitors will fallow this order except in cases of accidents, illness or withdraw.

  • Warm up rooms with pianos will be provided upon request for participants 15 minutes prior to their Final Round performance time.

  • All Violin category competitors are encouraged to find their own piano accompanists. If a competitor is unable to find their own accompanist they should contact the competition committee at least 30 days before the competition and an accompanist will be appointed to them. Every competitor is responsible for scheduling and paying for their own rehearsal and performance with the accompanist.

  • All repertoire should be performed by memory and should not exceed the time limit of each round.

  • The Competition Jury may stop a performance if the allotted time has expired or for any other appropriate reason.

  • Performing a work or works by a Bulgarian Composer is optional but necessary if the participant would like to compete for the ‘Special Prize for an exceptional Interpretation of a Piece by a Bulgarian Composer’ .

  • The Jury's decisions are final and can not be altered in any event.

 

Repertoire:

*Participants are encouraged but not required to perform a work by a Bulgarian composer such as: Pancho Vladigerov, Dimitar Nenov, Veselin Stoyanov, Lubomir Pipkov, Marin Goleminov, Parashkev Hadjiev, Petar Hristoskov or others. Pieces composed on a Bulgarian theme or rhythms by Non-Bulgarian composers are also acceptable (Ex. B. Bartok - Bulgarian Dances from Mikrokosmos). Please contact us for information on how to obtain and purchase Bulgarian Scores.

Piano Group A Final Round (YouTube Video Recording link to be submitted with the Application Form)

  • 5-10 minutes recording of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted.

 

Piano Group B Preliminary Round (YouTube Video Recording link to be submitted with the Application Form)

  • 8 – 12 minutes recording of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted.

Piano Group B Final Round (Not to exceed 10 minutes)

  • Open program consisting of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted. Pieces from the Preliminary Round may be repeated.

Piano Group C Preliminary Round (YouTube Video Recording link to be submitted with the Application Form)

  • 12 -15 minutes recording of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted.

Piano Group C Final Round (Not to exceed 15 minutes)

  • Open program consisting of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted. Pieces from the Preliminary Round may be repeated.

Violin Group A Final Round (YouTube Video Recording link to be submitted with the Application Form)

  • 5-10 minutes recording of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted.

Violin Group B Preliminary Round (YouTube Video Recording link to be submitted with the Application Form)

  • 8 – 12 minutes recording of at least two pieces of contrasting styles. Separate movements of multi-movement works are accepted.

Violin Group B Final Round (Not to exceed 10 minutes)

  • 1st Prize Certificate and Gold Medal

  • 2nd Prize Certificate and Silver Medal

  • 3rd Prize Certificate and Bronze Medal

  • Honorable Mention Diplomas

*Special Prizes may be awarded

Group C

  • 1st Prize Certificate, $1000 and Gold Medal

  • 2nd Prize Certificate, $400 and Silver Medal

  • 3rd Prize Certificate, $200 and Bronze Medal

  • Honorable Mention Diplomas

Special Prize for an exceptional Interpretation of a Piece by a Bulgarian Composer: $200

Special Prize for an exceptional Performance of a Classical Sonata: $100

Special Prize for an exceptional Performance of a Romantic Piece: $100

Special Prize for an exceptional Performance of a Contemporary Piece: $100

Concerts, Festival and Competition admissions and other engagements.

*The Jury reserves the right to award more than one of the same prize or not award a prize at all.

 

 

Rights:

  • The MANOLOV International Competition reserves the rights to broadcast LIVE and to record all performances.

  • Participants, Family members and audience are not allowed to use flash photography or any recording devices.

  • Failure to abide to any of the Rules and Regulations may result in disqualification.

  • All information containing in this document is correct at the time of publication. However the MANOLOV International Competition reserves the right to make changes.
